Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Lion Of The Desert (1981) - Anthony Quinn, Oliver Reed 10/10

Have you ever heard of Omar Mukhtar of Libya ?. If the answer is
no, you are not alone. We have never been taught any useful history
in school anyway. He was a poor Arab Bedouin, a school teacher by
profession, who led a tiny resistance force of militia against the
occupying imperial forces of Italy. A brave and brilliant tactician in
the field, he managed to keep the whole mechanized Italian Army
entangled for two decades from on top of his horse, fighting well
into his 70's.

This epic movie should be watched by the whole family, together.

Aside from the fantastic cinematography, script, direction and an
amazing array of war scenes, this movie is important because it
deals in the fundamental questions of human liberty and freedom.

What's so great about sovereignty or liberty ?. Are there moral
boundaries to imperial designs ?. Mercy, grace, courage, sacrifice,
integrity and honor. Are these currencies of the civilized European
or the shabby Bedouin ?. How do the tactics and time lines for a
freedom struggle differ from a well-funded standing army ?. Can
one win against such odds ?. These are not mere esoteric concepts
but real-life moral imperatives, immediate and relevant for Pakistanis.

This film is directed by the same Syrian Director Moustapha Akkad
who directed Mohammad: The Messenger of God. Before he was
killed by "Muslim" terrorists in 2005, he was looking for funding to
make a feature film about Salahuddin (with Sean Connery reportedly
playing the part). It's a pity he couldn't find the money in the whole
oil-rich Middle-East. Although, The Lion Of The Desert was partly
financed by none other than, Mo'ammar Gaddafi.
